Next Xbox Is Reportedly A PC Wrapped In A Console, Expected In 2027
Xbox has long been a dominant force in the gaming industry, delivering some of the most powerful and beloved consoles. However, recent years have been challenging, with setbacks in first-party game releases and shifting industry dynamics putting pressure on the brand. As Microsoft looks ahead, all eyes are on the next-gen Xbox.
The next-gen Xbox may blur the line between consoles and gaming PCs, providing more control and flexibility while retaining the ease of traditional living room gaming.
Jez Corden, a well-known gaming journalist and insider, revealed in a recent episode of the Xbox Two Podcast that the next-gen Xbox will function like a PC but with fixed console-like specs. According to him, developers have not received devkits yet, and the launch is expected in 2027, not in 2026.
Importance: With fixed hardware specs, developers can optimize games more effectively, reducing compatibility issues and simplifying development. Moreover, this approach positions Xbox as a hybrid console-PC, combining the stability of a console with the power and flexibility of a gaming PC.

Call of Duty Rumors & Devkit Speculations
The earlier rumor that the next Call of Duty, currently in development, is set to release on the next-generation Xbox in 2026 implies that Microsoft is actively working on new Xbox hardware. However, Jez Corden claims that developers have not yet received any devkits for the new Xbox.
Corden’s claims highlight shift in focus from devkits to hardware specifications, which may have been provided to developers for game optimization on the next Xbox.
Quoting his statement about devkits:
If the info about Call of Duty is accurate [about it launching on the next gen Xbox in 2026], there is no devkit right now. So like the idea that developers have already gotten the next-gen Xbox’s dev kit… that’s just not accurate.
Next-Gen Xbox and The Evolving Gaming Landscape
Previously, the Steam Deck’s experiment as a portable PC that can also be connected to a TV proved successful, showing that gamers value device flexibility. Similarly, Xbox has followed this approach by expanding Game Pass beyond its consoles.
According to Jez Coden, the next Xbox will likely launch in 2027, following Microsoft’s usual release cycle. However, unlike previous, many new games are still launching on older consoles, making it difficult to support several generations at a time. It is expected that developers might stop soon developing games for older systems.
