Split Fiction Is EA’s First 90+ Metacritic Game in Thirteen Years
Split Fiction is an action-adventure co-op game developed by Hazelight Studios and published by Electronic Arts. The title has been well recieved, especially by critics as it has broken a long streak of EA games not resonating too well with video game critics.
Split Fiction is the first EA game in thirteen years to accomplish the milestone of earning a 90+ Metacritic score, with the last EA title to achieve this being Mass Effect 3 in 2012.
Coincidentally, Split Fiction achieved this feat on the thirteenth anniversary of Mass Effect 3’s release. The exact Metacritic score of the title is 91, and it is currently the highest-rated game of the year.
Importance: This achievement marks a major success for EA after recent struggles, including the backlash against Dragon Age: The Veilguard. Furthermore, the universal acclaim from critics strengthens Hazelight Studios’ position in the market within the genre.

Split Fiction Metacritic Rating Is A Testament of Hazelight’s Creative Vision
Split Fiction stands as a testament to Hazelight Studios’ dedication to crafting unique cooperative experiences. The integration of diverse gameplay elements and compelling co-op mechanics offers players an immersive journey through Mio and Zoe’s imaginative worlds.
The Studios’ creativity is proven by the success of its previous game, It Takes Two, which won the Game of the Year award in 2021 with a Metacritic score of 88.
EA’s Redemption
EA needed a critically successful title to regain its reputation after the backlash it faced from critics over Dragon Age: The Veilguard. Split Fiction acted as a counterbalance to this negativity by earning a high Metacritic score, proving that EA can still produce high-quality titles, given the talent of top studios.
