Despite ending new content updates in September 2023, Mario Kart Tour could be making a surprising comeback this June with fresh additions, according to recent datamining claims.
YouTuber KoopaV recently shared a video citing internal game data suggesting that Mario Kart Tour will receive one new playable character and four new karts.
The potential update is rumored to arrive on June 11, 2025, coinciding with the launch of the Mario vs. Luigi Tour, which also happens to be the 150th tour in the game’s history.
Mario Kart Tour originally launched in late September 2019 and quickly became one of Nintendo’s most successful mobile titles. Early performance estimates for the title varied, but some reports suggest the game achieved up to 10 million downloads within its first day, while more conservative figures estimate 9 million downloads in the first week — still an impressive feat for the company’s mobile endeavors.
However, enthusiasm around the game gradually cooled as Nintendo announced in late 2023 that Mario Kart Tour would no longer receive new characters or tracks, with only recurring tour content remaining. That may now be changing, if this rumored June update proves true.
Though Nintendo has yet to officially confirm the news, the community is buzzing with speculation. Fans are especially eager to know who the mystery new racer might be.
According to reports, the character was originally planned for an early release but never made it into the final version of the game. Popular fan guesses include Koopa Paratroopa, Luma, Spike, and the surprising favorite, Moo Moo.
If the rumors are accurate, the timing of the update would come less than a week after the anticipated release of the Nintendo Switch 2, which is expected to launch with Mario Kart World as one of its flagship titles.
Some fans speculate that Nintendo could be using the mobile game’s new content to build hype for its next-generation console and boost interest in the franchise across platforms — possibly through cross-promotion or timed marketing strategies.
For now, all eyes are on June 11. Whether the rumors pan out or not, the renewed excitement around Mario Kart Tour shows that even years after its peak, the mobile racer still has a passionate and curious fan base.
