Neowiz has confirmed that Lies of P: Overture, the upcoming expansion to its hit Soulslike, will feature selectable difficulty options — a notable move in a genre known for its unforgiving challenge.
Unlike most Soulslike titles, particularly those from FromSoftware, which traditionally offer only a single difficulty mode, Lies of P: Overture will allow players to tailor the experience to their skill level. While many fans take pride in mastering the tough gameplay these games are known for, others have long argued that the lack of difficulty options limits the genre’s accessibility.
The game’s director Jiwon Choi stated,
“We wanted to make sure a wider audience of players could play the game.”

When asked if this decision was driven by player feedback, he affirmed and stated that we have a lot of feedback from customers, and from their developers. So by making development adjustments and introducing these difficulty options, they can offer the experience to different types of players, which broadens the base.
The upcoming patch launching alongside Lies of P: Overture will introduce two new difficulty levels: “Butterfly’s Guidance”, aimed at less experienced players, and “Awakened Puppet”, for those seeking a middle-ground challenge. The original game’s default difficulty setting will now be titled “Legendary Stalker.”
The expansion is said to be a challenging feature designed to push veteran players to their limits. It has been described as a great bridgeway between the sequel to Lies of P, which is currently in development, and the original title. The zoo is a great location for an expansion, and extremely well designed, and the new additions to the enemy roster will give players dozens of new patterns to learn and attacks to dodge.
The addition of a scalable difficulty system is perhaps the expansion’s most notable change. It could make Lies of P more appealing to newcomers, while still offering high-level challenges through Battle Memories for series veterans. As players await the sequel, Overture stands to be a welcome bridge — both in narrative and gameplay accessibility — for fans old and new.
