The Tekken series has become well-known for its unexpected guest fighters, but a surprising revelation from longtime director Katsuhiro Harada shows how far they almost went.

In a recent interview with TheGamer, Harada recounted how he once tried to negotiate with KFC to include Colonel Sanders in Tekken. Harada went as far as visiting KFC’s office in Japan, but the proposal was swiftly rejected, with KFC reportedly giving him a bad look.

Tekken 8 designer Michael Murray added that KFC likely turned down the idea because it didn’t want to see Colonel Sanders in a fighting game.

Importance: Even though KFC has made some advances in the gaming industry for increased popularity, the fighting genre might not be the one for KFC.

    Tekken
Tekken Is One Of The Most Famous Fighting Games Ever

Although KFC might seem like an odd fit for the gaming world, the brand has made some unconventional gaming-related moves in recent years.

KFC has promoted games like Diablo 4 and Genshin Impact and even ventured into meme territory with tongue-in-cheek promotions, including a mock console and a dating sim featuring Colonel Sanders.

The Colonel has also recently made his way into Funko Fusion as a playable character, armed with a chicken-launching bucket cannon. In a different universe, Tekken fans could have seen Colonel Sanders trade blows with iconic fighters like Heihachi Mishima and Bryan Fury, but the collaboration wasn’t meant to be.

Before the release of Tekken 8, the franchise dabbled with guest characters in its previous installments. Tekken 7 brought some unexpected DLC fighters to the ring, including Fatal Fury’s Geese Howard, Final Fantasy XV’s Noctis Lucis Caelum, The Walking Dead’s Negan, and Street Fighter’s Akuma, who even played a role in the game’s story.

While it’s unclear what kind of guest characters might appear in Tekken 8, it’s probably safe to assume that Colonel Sanders won’t be stepping into the Tekken arena anytime soon.
