The PS5 has been one of the greatest consoles to every launch as it have flown past records of some of the greatest consoles in history and is still doing so.

Sony recently launched the Pro version of the console, and fans have been wondering if the base model’s price would be lowered due to the console getting a mid-gen refresh.

It seems that the prayers of the fans have been answered as Sony has introduced a limited-time price reduction for the PlayStation 5 Slim Digital Edition until December 24 or while supplies last. However, this offer is only available in the United States.

Importance: Offering a discount on the PS5 is likely to boost its sales significantly, especially with the holiday season approaching, as many people look to pick up the console either for themselves or as a gift for loved ones.

The console is now priced at $379.99, down from its regular $449.99 price—offering a $70 discount. The promotion was highlighted at the end of Sony’s latest “Play Has No Limits” PS5 advert. However, as of the latest update, the discounted price had not yet appeared on Sony’s PlayStation Direct online store, where the console remains listed at $449.99.

The standard PS5 Slim model continues to retail at $499.99, while the recently launched PS5 Pro model is priced at $699.99.

Sony recently reported that it shipped approximately 3.8 million PS5 units during its second quarter ending in September, marking a 29% decrease compared to the same period last year, bringing the console’s total lifetime shipments to 65.5 million.

This places PS5 slightly behind the PS4, which had reached 67.5 million units shipped by the same point in its lifecycle. Sony expects the PlayStation division to achieve record operating income in the current fiscal year, driven by strong sales of third-party titles and PlayStation Plus subscriptions.

Going forward, the company plans to maintain a balanced focus on both single-player experiences and live service games.
