    Ninja-themed side-scrolling action games have long captivated gamers with fast-paced combat, precise platforming, and stealth. In recent years, the genre has seen a resurgence, fueled by a wave of retro-inspired titles that pay tribute to the golden era of 2D gaming.

    As developers explore new ways to breathe life into iconic franchises, fans of classic action platformers have plenty to look forward to—especially when a beloved ninja legend is poised to return with a fresh artistic twist and revitalized gameplay experience.

    Building on this renewed interest, SHINOBI: Art of Vengeance is set to make its mark as a standout title in the genre. Developed by Lizardcube and published by SEGA, this upcoming 2D action platformer will launch on August 29, 2025.

    The game features a 2D side-scrolling perspective with meticulously designed stages, detailed backgrounds, and fluid character animations. The hand-drawn art style enhances the game’s nostalgic appeal while introducing a fresh and modern look to the classic ninja action genre.

    Game Settings And Environment

    In this game, players will explore over a dozen visually striking stages—from military bases to scorching deserts—featuring challenging platforming and hidden secrets. The story centers on the Oboro Clan, led by the legendary ninja Joe Musashi, defending their village from a Premilitary faction.

    The paramilitary faction ENE Corp’s mastermind, Ruse, wages a full-scale assault to crush the Oboro Clan’s resistance. Players can master Musashi’s arsenal, including Katana, shuriken, Ninjutsu arts, and Amulets, to adapt and overcome enemies.

    SHINOBI: Art Of Vengeance Early Access And Bonuses

    The Digital Deluxe Edition of the game offers early access to the game (three days before launch on most platforms except Nintendo Switch), plus exclusive bonuses like the Ghost Outfit, Medic Lite Amulet, and 2000 in-game gold.

    It also includes a digital artbook, soundtrack and the upcoming SEGA Villains Stage DLC featuring iconic SEGA bosses. Pre-orders for the standard and Digital Deluxe Editions come with the Original Arcade Outfit and Fortune Hunter Amulet.
