Acclaimed fantasy author George R.R. Martin has recently sparked excitement among fans by revealing that discussions have taken place about turning Elden Ring into a movie.

Martin, who played a key role in shaping the game’s lore, shared this intriguing news, fueling speculation that an Elden Ring movie could become a reality. An Elden Ring movie is pretty plausible since FromSoftware has also shown interest.

Having secured numerous Game of the Year accolades, Elden Ring is widely regarded as one of the greatest Soulslike games ever created. Both players and critics have lauded its vast open-world design, breathtaking visuals, and demanding yet rewarding gameplay.

Given its similarities to epic fantasy films such as The Lord of the Rings, many fans are now hoping Martin’s comments are a sign that a cinematic adaptation is on the horizon.

Possibility Of An Elden Ring Movie

During an interview at IGN Fan Fest 2025, Martin was asked about the possibility of an Elden Ring movie. While he remained somewhat reserved, he confirmed that discussions are indeed happening.

“I can’t say too much about it. But there is some talk about making a movie out of Elden Ring.”

Martin’s involvement in the game’s original story has left many fans eager to see him contribute to a film adaptation. However, he was quick to point out a significant obstacle—his long-overdue novel, The Winds of Winter.

With the next installment in A Song of Ice and Fire already delayed for over a decade, Martin expressed his commitment to finishing that project before considering work on a screenplay for Elden Ring.

While Its Plausible, A Film Is Still Challenging

Beyond Martin’s busy schedule, FromSoftware’s president, Hidetaka Miyazaki, also acknowledged the challenges in adapting the game to film. While he expressed interest in the idea, Miyazaki admitted that neither he nor FromSoftware have experience in the world of filmmaking.

To make the project a reality, they would need to collaborate with a highly capable partner who understands how to bring Elden Ring’s vast and complex world to the big screen.

Despite these hurdles, fans remain hopeful. The upcoming Elden Ring: Nightreign DLC was developed without Martin’s direct involvement, proving that the universe of Elden Ring can continue to expand without him.

Additionally, with major studios like Sony and Netflix ramping up their efforts to adapt video games into films and series, the industry seems ripe for an Elden Ring movie. If FromSoftware finds the right creative partner, the dream of seeing Elden Ring on the silver screen might not be far off.
