Ubisoft has announced plans to launch offline modes for both The Crew 2 and The Crew Motorfest. The news came as part of a Crew Motorfest showcase on Tuesday, during which developer Ivory Tower addressed concerns raised by fans about the previous handling of The Crew series.

Stéphane Beley, senior creative director at Ivory Tower, acknowledged player frustrations following the delisting and shutdown of The Crew, which was taken offline earlier this year, rendering it unplayable.

    He stated,

“We want to acknowledge that some of you voiced concern about the access to The Crew games. Today, we want to express our commitment to the future of The Crew 2 and The Crew Motorfest. We are currently exploring different solutions, and can confirm an offline mode to ensure long-term access to both titles.”

Importance: The Crew is one of Ubisoft’s big franchises, but the first installment received unjustified treatment that should not be repeated in future releases.

This commitment follows the controversial decision to decommission The Crew after nearly a decade of support. Ubisoft had explained its reasoning, citing server infrastructure and licensing constraints as the main factors behind taking the game offline.

Despite the discontinuation of The Crew, Ubisoft reaffirmed its focus on continuing to deliver new content for The Crew 2 and The Crew Motorfest. The publisher expressed gratitude to the community built around the original game, noting that its legacy lives on in the newer titles.

Additionally, the Crew Motorfest showcase offered players a glimpse into the future of the game with details on the upcoming Season 5 update. The update, which will mark the start of Motorfest’s second year of content, is set to launch in November and will introduce the island of Maui as a new playable location.

It is great to see that the developers have learned from the previous handling of The Crew, and will feature offline modes in the future so that the following titles after The Crew cannot meet a similar fate. However, while this is great news, we would also like first entry The Crew to be re released as an offline game.
