Since its launch in 2017, PUBG: Battlegrounds has become one of the most influential and successful battle royale games in the world. Pioneering the genre, PUBG has sold over 75 million copies on PC and consoles, while its free-to-play version has attracted hundreds of millions of people globally.

Over the past 8 years, PUBG has evolved into a cultural phenomenon, shaping the battle royale landscape, while continuing to grow and innovate. Now, PUBG has revealed its roadmap for the year 2025 in a press release, highlighting plans for a next-gen console upgrade.

In a press release dated March 18, 2025, Krafton unveiled its future plans for PUBG. The centerpiece of the announcement is PUBG’s official launch on Xbox Series X|S and PS5 consoles by late 2025, promising major upgrades to performance, frame rates, map loading speeds, and overall graphical quality.

Importance: To ensure this next-gen version feels like a true leap forward, Krafton is transitioning PUBG to the most upgrade Unreal Engine 5. Leveraging Epic’s cutting-edge technology will not only modernize PUBG’s graphics but also ensure its ability to evolve and adapt to future technical advancements.

PUBG Next-Gen Upgrade Blends UGC Innovation With Unreal Engine 5 Overhaul

In addition to this major engine upgrade, Krafton is also launching PUBG UGC (User-Generated Content) project. This feature will allow players to design and share custom content, starting with a new TDM-style mode available in custom matches.

Despite the modest improvements to resolutions and FPS rates in 2022, PUBG continued to run on the same underlying technology as the Xbox One version. As a result, Krafton has outlined the upcoming transition to Unreal Engine 5 in detail through its comprehensive 2025 roadmap video, which we’ve included below.

The New Roadmap Brings AI Enhancements, Weapon Tweaks, And Refreshed Maps

Improving gunplay is a top focus, with updates every two months to keep weapons balanced and gameplay exciting. Krafton is committed to keeping PUBG’s combat system fresh and balanced through regular weapon updates and new content.

PUBG Is One Of The Greatest Battle Royale Title Ever

PUBG’s AI system is being enhanced to create smarter, more lifelike bots in matches. Krafton also plans to revamp existing maps, introducing major updates and interactive features instead of launching an entirely new map.

With these upgrades, PUBG is set to deliver a deeper, more engaging experience for players worldwide. Krafton’s vision ensures that PUBG will continue to evolve and stay fresh for years to come.
