In recent years, Steam has consistently rolled out updates aimed at improving the overall gaming experience for its massive user base. From quality-of-life enhancements to new built-in tools. Valve continues to refine its platform for both casual and competitive players.

With the ever-growing demand for streamlined performance and fewer background apps, the latest update takes another step toward convenience. Steam’s update introduces performance monitoring feature, integrated directly into the platform.

Valve’s new Steam update introduces an integrated in-game performance overlay, allowing users to monitor system stats in real-time. The tool allows players to monitor FPS, DLSS/FSR frames, CPU, GPU, and RAM usage, while gaming.

Importance: Fully integrated into Steam, this tool aims to reduce the need for third-party software and improve overall gaming efficiency and sets a new standard for platform-native gaming utilities.

The new Steam update is designed to enhance gaming performance tracking without third-party tools

Platform Support And Expansion Plans In The New Steam Update

Users can customize the overlay’s position, text size, opacity, and color saturation to suit their preferences. Though the feature is initially optimized for Windows users with common GPUs, Valve plans to expand support to other platforms and hardware configurations overtime.

The performance monitor is disabled by default but can be easily activated via Steam’s in-game settings. Valve is also seeking user feedback and intends to improve the tool further, including features that could help identify hardware issues and enhance full overlay data displays.

    Setting Up The In-Game Overlay

To open Steam’s new performance monitor, open Steam and go to Settings, then select the “In-Game” tab. Scroll down to find the “Overlay Performance Monitor” option and choose where you want the overlay to appear on your screen, such as top-left or bottom-right.

You can also get a toggle key to quickly show or hide monitor during gameplay without reopening the settings. By default, the feature is off, so users need to activate it manually to start tracking their system’s performance.

Valve’s new Steam update integrates FPS, CPU, GPU, and RAM stats directly into gameplay

The new Steam update brings a convenient in-game performance monitor that simplifies system tracking for games. How will this built-in tool change the way you manage your gaming setup?
