    • The Core i9-14900K boasts 32 threads overall, 16 efficient cores, and 8 performance cores.
    • The striking similarity in performance between it and its 13900K predecessor is disheartening.
    • It has a 200MHz faster maximum turbo frequency at 6GHz than the 13900K.
    • $600 was the original MSRP.
    • Date of Release: 17 October 2023

    Intel i9-14900K Specs and Overview

The Intel 13900K, which costs $550, is the main rival of the 14900K, which is priced at $600. With prices ranging from $350 to $400 throughout the week, the 7800X3D is AMD’s main rival in the gaming market. With a typical price of less than $600, AMD’s top manufacturing rival is the 7950X. Currently, the AMD R9 7900X costs between $425 and $450, depending on where you look.

The Intel 14th series CPUs, which we sometimes refer to as “14th gen,” aren’t actually a new generation because they have the same architecture and aren’t worthy of a new generational designation. Unfortunately, Intel has marketed this incorrectly, raising expectations beyond what consumers would actually receive.

If you already own a 12900K or 13900K, you don’t need to bother about getting a new motherboard because the 14900K is merely an update. The current Z690 and Z790 motherboards completely handle the newest 14th Gen processors, and Intel is still using its LGA 1700 socket in this instance. On most contemporary boards, updating the BIOS is a simple process that must be done on the motherboard.

This year, there aren’t any new motherboards or chipsets, but motherboard manufacturers have updated some of their Z790 models to include the Core i9-14900K’s Wi-Fi 7 compatibility. I put the chip on the MSI MAG Z790 Carbon WiFi in order to test it. With four M.2 slots supporting PCIe Gen 4 speeds and one M.2 slot supporting PCIe Gen 5 (or below), it has everything you need to fully utilize the 14900K.

The x86 performance hybrid architecture and Intel’s 7 process are still the foundation of the 14900K. This implies that Intel’s Thread Director, an embedded microcontroller inside the CPU that monitors threads and makes sure they’re executing on the correct cores, divides workloads between performance cores (P-cores) and efficiency cores (E-cores).

This year, Intel has maintained the same core counts, but it now supports DDR5 5600 and DDR4 3200 memory rates. Intel keeps DDR4 compatibility for motherboard manufacturers that ship with DDR4 support instead of DDR5, in contrast to AMD and its move to AM5.

    Conclusion

This year, unless you truly want the finest creator performance available and don’t care about your energy costs or the amount of heat it creates, it’s difficult to recommend the 14900K. Simply put, AMD’s 7800X3D is a superior option for gaming, especially since it can be easily found for less than $400 as opposed to the $589 (and probably higher) price of the 14900K.

As for Intel’s response to AMD’s 3D V-Cache, it’s unclear when it will happen. According to rumors, an Intel desktop CPU with an LGA 1851 socket change will be released the following year. With the 14th generation, LGA 1700 seems to be coming to a close and performance gains are whispering behind it.

While Intel continues to lead in creative jobs, it is losing ground in the gaming space. Those who require both gaming and creative app performance will find it challenging to make their decision. But the option is clear for people who are only interested in gaming.

Is the Core i9-14900K good for gaming?

With a few notable exceptions, the Intel Core i9-14900K retains its position as the company’s top gaming processor, despite a minor improvement over the previous model.

    Is 14900K future proof?

Future-Proofing: As software continues to use more cores, the i9-14900K’s larger core count may make it more future-proof. In conclusion, i9-14900K: Great performance, but more expensive.

Amif growing anticipation for GTA 6, rumors suggest that Rockstar Games is preparing to port GTA 4 and Max Payne 3 to modern consoles. With GTA 4 over 17 years old, this would give fans a chance to revisit Liberty City, especially following GTA 6's recent trailer, which connects protagonist Lucia Caminos to the city. Building on the success of recent remasters like Red Dead Redemption, Rockstar may be rethinking its approach to fan-favorite titles. However, until an official announcement is made, these reports should be taken with caution.
