The original God of War was released by Santa Monica Studio in 2005 for the PS2, and since then, the series has been a flagship franchise for PlayStation. The game’s 20th anniversary is next month, and fans are hopeful that the studio will celebrate this occasion with a big surprise.

Many around the world have been anticipating this surprise since last year, and that is the launch of God of War Remasters, as the studio did on its 10th anniversary by releasing God of War 3 remastered for the PS4, delivering high quality gameplay.

Importance: The God of War franchise has been around long enough to warrant a similar remaster or remake scheme like Resident Evil. It has consistently delivered for fans, and revisiting the classic titles would give both new and longtime players a chance to experience them with modern enhancements.

Previous False Rumors and Jeff Grubbs Insight

There has been speculation since last year about the release of remasters for the entire Greek journey. It was first reported that the developer was expected to unveil remasters at The Game Awards 2024 to mark its 20th anniversary in 2025.

However, this didn’t happen, leading fans to think that the classic Greek-era games might instead be added to the PS Plus Premium Classics catalogue in 2025.

Now earlier this month, a new rumor surfaced, stating that Santa Monica Studio is remastering the Greek tale for the PS5 with high resolution and frame rates, and would be revealed at the State of Play this month. Unfortunately, This rumor also turned out to be false, causing the God of War community to lose interest.

However, insider Jeff Grubb posted on Bluesky that the earlier speculations were merely premature and lacked confirmation or concrete information. He said that the project is expected to be released around the anniversary occasion, with the event possibly taking place at Gallery Nucleus in Alhambra, California.

Next God of War Returning To Greece

Looking at the credibility of the news, Grubb has been reliable previously and hopefully will be this time as well. Along with that, the insight by Tom Henderson on the next God of War returning to Greece and featuring a younger Kratos also hints that the release could be predicted for next month.

A God of War Game Based On Egyptian Mythology Might Also Be In Development

As of now, there is no announcement from any official partner, but the rumors could still turn out to be true since the occasion is yet to begin.

The future is unpredictable, but the celebration of the Valhalla expansion’s one-year anniversary and the addition of God of War Ragnarok to the PlayStation Plus Extra Tier suggest something similar might be planned for the big occasion.

Considering all the speculation and unverified buzz, do you think that the God of War Remasters will be announced for the 20th anniversary or is it just another rumor? Share your thoughts in the comment section.
