Call of Duty Warzone New Map “Avalon” May Be Delayed or Scrapped For Verdansk
Warzone originally launched with the Verdansk map, which was replaced by Caldera in 2021. Verdansk was one of the most beloved maps among the majority of the gaming community. With the release of Black Ops 6, a new map change in Call of Duty Warzone was expected. However, Activision decided to part from their usual routine.
Activision’s changes with the release of Black Ops 6 did not follow their usual cycle. Typically, each new title brought the new Call of Duty Warzone map to align with the latest title. However, this time, Urzikstan remained the main Warzone map instead of being replaced.
Now, an insider source, TheGhostOfHope, claimed on Twitter that the franchise may delay or cancel the new Avalon map in favor of bringing back Verdansk, the original Warzone map, which is expected to return in Season 3.
Importance: By bringing back Verdansk, Activision aims to invest more in a player-driven approach, which would directly benefit the franchise. However, ensuring the maximum utilization of existing assets and delaying Avalon map for BO7 while expanding the COD universe is a strategic move.

Previously, the franchise faced backlash over the use of Generative AI in Black Ops 6, raising ethical and transparency concerns. Given this history, Activision is now highly cautious about any potential negative feedback.
This concern is very evident in its recent strategy to delay or possibly cancel the new Warzone map and bring back the fan-favorite Verdansk.
Call of Duty Warzone New Map Avalon Might Be Repurposed in BO7
In a follow-up Tweet, the insider suggested that if Avalon is not releasing in Warzone, it could still be repurposed as a map for the Outbreak Zombies mode of Black Ops 7. Hope stated,
“I say “Canned for Warzone” because it’s supposedly the Outbreak map for BO7 Zombies from my understanding.”
This mode was first introduced in Black Ops Cold War, and reports suggest that it may return in the upcoming Call of Duty release in 2025. However, earlier reports indicated that the mode would feature entirely new maps.

This wouldn’t be the first time Activision has taken this approach. Previously, the franchise used Urzikstan (a Warzone battle royale map) instead of creating a new one. This suggests a growing trend where Warzone maps are being integrated into other COD modes rather than remaining exclusive to battle royale.
This shift suggests a future where Warzone’s maps may no longer be limited to battle royale but instead serve as versatile battlegrounds across all COD modes.

Smfh, who proofread this bullshit? Verdansk has been verified to be coming back in Season 3 since December at least. If that big of an error was made in this article, why bother reading any of the rest of it?
Thanks for your feedback. While there has been strong evidence pointing to Verdansk’s return in Season 3, there was no official confirmation from Activision beyond stating it would return in Spring 2025. Initially, we used the word ‘potentially’ to avoid presenting speculation as fact.
However, after reviewing the available information again, we recognize that the return in Season 3 is now well-supported, so we’ve updated the article accordingly. We appreciate you pointing it out and will continue striving for accuracy.
