Call of Duty: Black Ops 6 Launches To Mixed Reviews On Steam

Call of Duty: Black Ops 6 has quickly landed on Steam’s “Mixed” user review status shortly after its October 25 release. Despite topping Steam’s Top Sellers chart, many players are raising issues, with no single cause responsible for the game’s lukewarm reception.

Negative reviews on Steam are citing various reasons for poor experiences, including technical and gameplay issues, with the most frequent complaint centered around the Call of Duty HQ.

Importance: Call of Duty Black Ops 6 is seen as a crucial opportunity for Activision to make a strong comeback, especially after a few lackluster years. However, early reviews might hint towards a troubled future for the franchise.

Originally launched in 2022, CoD HQ is the main launcher for Black Ops 6, and it merges playtime with other Call of Duty titles like Modern Warfare 2 and Modern Warfare 3, which complicates refund eligibility for players who exceed Steam’s two-hour playtime policy.

Frustrated users have described the launcher experience as overly slow, often taking several minutes to boot up Black Ops 6 before gameplay can even begin.

On the technical side, players have reported various issues ranging from general performance and networking problems to instances where Call of Duty HQ crashes at launch, effectively barring access to the game.

Beyond these hurdles, Black Ops 6’s Zombies mode has received criticism as well. Some players describe it as lacking in creativity and depth, with a sparse map selection that has left some speculating that Activision may release remastered versions of Black Ops and Black Ops 2 Zombies maps as paid DLC.

Additionally, Professional reviews for Black Ops 6, unlike many major releases, has been scarce, as Activision appears to have distributed significantly fewer review copies than usual.

As of now, OpenCritic has only aggregated four reviews for the title, an unusually low count for what’s expected to be one of 2024’s most popular releases. Thus, it’s unclear if these early user complaints align with critical perspectives.

If these early fan complaints hold true, Activision may once again fall short in delivering a standout entry in the Call of Duty franchise, which could pose further issues for its future.
