The Witcher 4: Geralt Will Return, But Not As The Main Character
The Witcher 3 is widely regarded as one of the greatest RPGs ever made, cherished by players around the globe and continuing to maintain its popularity even today. Ever since CD Projekt Red announced that The Witcher 4 is in development, the excitement surrounding the game has been immense, making it one of the most anticipated future titles.
CD Projekt Red has revealed that The Witcher 4, codenamed Polaris, will mark the beginning of a new saga. This suggests a departure from the previous Witcher games and has led many to speculate that Geralt may no longer be the main protagonist, a title he has held since Witcher 1.
This has now been confirmed by the voice actor of Geralt, Doug Cockle, as he stated in a recent interview, that while Geralt will return in The Witcher 4, but he won’t be the main character this time around.
“We know that Geralt will be part of the game, we just don’t know how much. The game won’t focus on Geralt, so it’s not about him this time.”
Importance: Geralt has been the central character of The Witcher games since the beginning, so introducing a new character feels like a refreshing step for CD Projekt Red. However, keeping Geralt involved is amazing, as he has been the iconic face of the franchise.
Cockle further mentioned that he has yet to receive a script for the game, leaving the specifics of Geralt’s role a mystery.
Currently, two-thirds of CD Projekt Red’s workforce is dedicated to The Witcher 4, which is codenamed Polaris. The development team has grown significantly, now comprising over 400 members, making it the largest team at the studio. This growth comes as the team prepares to enter the production phase, scheduled for the latter half of 2024.
This is a marked increase from November 2023, when the project had around 330 developers, reflecting CD Projekt Red’s commitment to making The Witcher 4 one of their most ambitious projects yet.
A lot of people including us are looking forward to the game, but it is to be noted that the game is not releasing anytime soon, as CD Projekt Red essentially confirmed that we shouldn’t be expecting Witcher 4 release date before 2025.
So if we were to speculate, the game could be released as early as late 2025, or somewhere in 2026. Nevertheless, we are very excited and looking forward to the title, as it has been more than 9 years since a new entry was released in the Witcher franchise.
