Sony Seemingly Announcing The PS5 Pro Today
Sony seems set to unveil the highly anticipated PlayStation 5 Pro during a special presentation on Tuesday. The company has officially announced plans for a nine-minute PS5 “technical presentation” to be hosted by Mark Cerny, the lead system architect behind the console.
This presentation will begin on September 10 at 8 AM PT / 11 AM ET / 4 PM BST and will be available to watch in English on the PlayStation YouTube channel. Sony has stated that the focus of the event will be on the PS5 and innovations in gaming technology.
Importance: The PS5 is already a highly capable console, delivering impressive performance for modern, high-end games. However, the Pro variant is expected to elevate this experience even further, unlocking new possibilities and pushing the console’s capabilities into new territories.
According to recent leaks, the PS5 Pro’s design is expected to be similar to the PS5 Slim, maintaining the same white color scheme. The main visual difference, however, will reportedly be the addition of three black stripes across the middle of the console, setting it apart from other PS5 models.
This design rumor was seemingly confirmed by Sony last week, with an illustration of the PS5 Pro appearing in a PlayStation 30th Anniversary announcement.
Earlier this year, YouTuber Moore’s Law is Dead leaked official Sony documentation outlining the PS5 Pro’s specifications. The leak, sourced from Sony Interactive Entertainment’s Developer Network, was quickly verified by other outlets like IGN before Sony issued a copyright strike to take the video down, further solidifying its legitimacy.
As per the leaked information, the PS5 Pro’s CPU will be almost identical to the standard PS5, but with a “High CPU Frequency Mode” that increases its performance by 10%, boosting the clock speed to 3.85GHz. However, this will come at the cost of slightly reducing GPU performance by 1%.
The PS5 Pro’s GPU will be significantly more powerful, packing 33.5 teraflops compared to the standard PS5’s 10.28 teraflops. While this doesn’t equate to a threefold increase in power, changes in AMD’s architecture make direct comparisons difficult. In practical terms, the performance increase is closer to 17 teraflops, and leaked documents suggest that rendering speeds will be around 45% faster.
Sony’s upcoming presentation could provide further details about these advancements and solidify the PS5 Pro’s place in the gaming market. With the console potentially just around the corner, fans are eagerly awaiting official confirmation and additional information.
