Palworld Will Remain Buy To Play; Pocketpair Confirms
Palworld developer Pocketpair has reassured players that the game will remain buy-to-play, dispelling concerns that it might shift to a free-to-play (F2P) or games-as-a-service (GaaS) model.
In a statement posted on X/Twitter, Pocketpair stated:
“We are not changing our game’s business model, it will remain buy-to-play and not F2P or GaaS.”
The clarification came after a recent interview led some players to believe that the team was considering adopting a live-service approach for the game.
Importance: Changing a business model after a game’s release is a significant challenge for any developer. It involves overhauling the entire foundation the title was built upon, making the transition particularly complex and difficult to implement successfully.
The developer emphasized that while they had discussed potential future directions for Palworld, the decision to stick with the current model was final.
The interview in question, which took place several months ago, reportedly occurred during a period when the team was still internally debating the future of Palworld. However, the statement clarified that the idea of a free-to-play or games-as-a-service model was ultimately dismissed.
Pocketpaid explained that Palworld was never designed with that model in mind, and it would require too much work to adapt the game at this point. The further stated that they are very aware that this just isn’t what their players want, and they always put their players first.
While the team remains open to exploring additional content like skins and DLC to support development, any such plans will be discussed with the community at a later time. For now, the primary focus is on making Palworld the best game it can be.
While Palworld debuted as one of the most anticipated titles, it has experienced a significant decline in player count since its release. However, we believe that the developers at Pocketpair have the potential to revitalize the game. We are optimistic about the future and eager to see how they steer Palworld moving forward.
