The Nintendo Switch 2 has been a hot topic ever since rumors of its development surfaced online. The hype reached a whole new level in May when Nintendo confirmed that their next console would be revealed before April 2025. There has not been much information about the Switch’s successor, but as we close in on the reveal, Nintendo is easing up.

Recently, during a general meeting of shareholders, Nintendo executives addressed concerns about preventing the reselling of their upcoming console. This issue was also discussed at last year’s meeting, where the company had mentioned plans to tackle it.

Nintendo president Shuntaro Furukawa responded to inquiries by emphasizing that the best way to combat scalping is to ensure that consumers can purchase the console directly from retail outlets. He stressed that meeting customer demand through sufficient production is the primary strategy for preventing the need to turn to resellers.

Importance: Scalping has become a significant problem in the gaming industry, with scalpers taking advantage of product shortages to raise prices well above the MSRP. This creates an unfair environment for gamers and disrupts the industry.

Furukawa highlighted that producing enough units to satisfy market demand is crucial in curbing resale activities. Additionally, he mentioned that Nintendo is considering implementing other measures, tailored to the specific conditions of different regions, to further address the issue.

The president also pointed out that the semiconductor shortage, which previously hindered many companies’ ability to manufacture new hardware, is no longer a problem. He explained that the shortage of semiconductor components significantly affected Nintendo’s ability to produce enough Switch consoles over the past couple of years, but this situation has now been resolved.

Furukawa assured shareholders that the current component supply is stable and should not impede the production of Nintendo’s next console. He stated,

“At present, we do not believe that the shortage of components will have a significant impact on the production of the successor model.”

This is great news from Nintendo, as it means we can rest assured that we won’t face the same scalping issues with the Switch 2 that we experienced with the current Switch, PS5, and other consoles.

We are excited and eager to see how the Nintendo Switch 2 will turn out. So far, the details about the successor have been intriguing. However, only time will tell how the console turns out, but seeing how the Nintendo Switch performed, we are optimistic.
