Leaked Nvidia RTX 5090 Specs: A 600W Powerhouse with 32GB GDDR7 Memory
A recent leak from well-known hardware leaker @kopite7kimi has revealed potential specifications for Nvidia’s upcoming GeForce RTX 5090 and RTX 5080 GPUs. According to the leak, the RTX 5090 could feature an immense 600W total graphics power (TGP), making it a powerhouse among Nvidia’s upcoming Blackwell series of desktop graphics cards. If accurate, the RTX 5090 will boast 21,760 CUDA cores and 32GB of GDDR7 memory on a 512-bit interface, delivering massive computational power at the cost of high power consumption.
Meanwhile, the RTX 5080 is expected to come equipped with 10,752 CUDA cores, paired with 16GB of GDDR7 memory on a 256-bit bus. It will have a 400W TGP, making it a strong contender in its own right, but notably less powerful compared to the flagship RTX 5090. While the RTX 5080 should see significant performance gains over its predecessor, the RTX 5090’s superior specs create a much larger performance gap between the two cards compared to previous generations.
The scale of this performance difference is unusual, with the RTX 5090 nearly doubling the core count of the 5080, suggesting that Nvidia may be aiming to carve out new performance tiers within their product lineup. This also fuels speculation that Nvidia might be positioning these high-end GPUs for dual use in both consumer gaming and AI-related tasks, as demand for AI computing power continues to grow.
One theory explaining the sheer power of the RTX 5090 is that it might utilize a dual-die architecture, similar to Nvidia’s data center GPUs, or alternatively, feature a massive monolithic chip with a die size of around 650mm². Either approach would be expensive, both to produce and for consumers. Pricing for these cards could surpass that of the already pricey RTX 4090, particularly if AI-focused variants are introduced first.
While these leaked specs are unofficial and subject to change, they offer a glimpse into Nvidia’s ambitious plans for the Blackwell GPU lineup. The rumored release date for the RTX 50-series remains uncertain, with some suggesting it may launch in early 2025. For now, the specifics and timing are speculative, and Nvidia has yet to make any official announcements.
