Fallout: New Vegas Director Is Down To Revisit The Franchise
Fallout: New Vegas is regarded as the standout title in the Fallout series, and while fans have been eagerly waiting for a sequel, their hopes have yet to be realized. However, the future may still hold some promise.
Recently, the director of Fallout: New Vegas, Josh Sawyer, during his recent Q&A series on YouTube discussed the possibility of returning to the Fallout franchise. He clarified that his involvement would depend on the level of creative autonomy he would be granted.
Importance: The prospect of the original director, known for one of the best titles in the Fallout franchise, potentially revisiting the series and bringing back the essence of Fallout: New Vegas to newer titles would be fantastic.
Sawyer explained that for any project, the critical factors include understanding what the team is aiming to achieve, the limitations they face, and the freedoms they have. He emphasized that when dealing with an established IP, especially one he has worked on previously, the focus is on what new aspects could be explored that were not possible in the past.
He noted that if the creative constraints are too restrictive, the project becomes less appealing, as it would not be fulfilling to work on something where the most intriguing ideas are not feasible.
Recently, Cain and Boyarsky, the original Fallout co-creators, who have worked together for a long time and most recently co-directed Obsidian’s The Outer Worlds, shared in an interview that they would love to see the 2010 Fallout game revisited.
In 2022, there were reports that early discussions had taken place about the possibility of a Fallout: New Vegas sequel, with Obsidian and Bethesda’s parent company, Microsoft, reportedly showing significant interest in the idea.
If a Fallout: New Vegas sequel were to be greenlit, it likely wouldn’t release soon, as Fallout 5 has already been greenlit and is expected to launch before 2030, which is still quite far off.
Given that the developers are working on Fallout 5, it seems unlikely they would also focus on a Fallout: New Vegas sequel alongside it in the upcoming few years. However, we’ll keep an eye out for any updates on a potential sequel.
