No PS5 Pro Patch Planned For Cyberpunk 2077, Confirms CD Projekt
The PS5 Pro, launched earlier this month, brings notable performance enhancements over the base PS5. However, its true potential remains underwhelming due to the limited number of titles optimized to leverage its enhanced capabilities.
Adding to this, CD Projekt has confirmed that they have no plans to release a PS5 Pro update for Cyberpunk 2077, further diminishing the mid-gen console’s appeal among fans hoping for enhanced experiences on major titles.
Responding to a fan inquiry about a potential patch for Sony’s upgraded console, the official Cyberpunk 2077 account clarified,
“We currently have no plans for PS5 Pro patch.”
Importance: Major titles like Cyberpunk 2077 skipping PS5 Pro optimizations highlight a broader challenge for Sony. It underscores a potential reluctance among developers to allocate time and resources toward supporting mid-generation upgrades, which could limit the console’s appeal in the long term.
CD Projekt’s stance on not providing a PS5 Pro patch for Cyberpunk 2077 is understandable, given their extensive workload with numerous ongoing projects. Adding a patch would only increase their burden.
When Cyberpunk 2077 first launched on consoles in 2020, it suffered from severe performance issues, leading Sony to offer full refunds and temporarily remove it from the PlayStation Store. The game later returned with a re-release for PS5, including free upgrades for PS4 players.
Sony’s recently launched PS5 Pro, priced at $700/£800, offers graphical and performance enhancements for over 50 titles. A PS5 Pro-optimized version of Cyberpunk 2077 could have showcased the game in an even more impressive light, taking full advantage of the console’s capabilities.
However, given CD Projekt’s current priorities, it’s unlikely we’ll see a dedicated patch for the PS5 Pro anytime soon.
Some of the projects CD Projekt is working on at the moment includes a sequel to Cyberpunk 2077, codenamed Project Orion. This project is being led by CD Projekt Red’s new North American division, with studios based in Boston and Vancouver.
Moreover, the company is also working on The Witcher 4 codenamed Polaris, which is one of their most anticipated titles to date which is scheduled to begin developement soon.
