Black Ops 6 Requires More Than 300GB Of Storage

Black Ops 6 was recently revealed at the Xbox Games Showcase and even had its own Direct after the show, which provided a lot of gameplay and details about the game. Anticipation for the game has risen significantly, but it turns out to be demanding on your storage.

It has been revealed on the official Xbox site for Black Ops 6 that the game will weigh in at a whopping 310GB, potentially making it the biggest title ever released.

Why it matters: Call of Duty: Black Ops 6 marks a return to the beloved Black Ops series. Given the series’ popularity and the underwhelming performance of recent releases, fans are eagerly anticipating this game. The massive 310GB storage requirement suggests a plethora of content.

While the 310GB storage requirement is exciting because it implies a wealth of content, it also poses a challenge. 310GB of storage is significant and could consume a lot of your available space unless you have multiple terabytes of storage.

Black Ops 6, however, will be integrated into Call of Duty HQ, Activision’s game launcher for all current Call of Duty titles, so the file size could vary depending on these factors and the final size for Black Ops 6 could be way lower than 310GB.

However, if the game indeed requires close to 300GB, many players might need to prepare by purchasing extended storage for their consoles.

A typical home console nowadays features 1TB of storage, with around 800GB available for user storage after accounting for system requirements. Many people already find this insufficient, and those looking forward to Black Ops 6 might have to free up space by removing some of their existing games.

It’s important to note that this storage requirement is currently only for Xbox consoles. It remains to be seen if a similar size will be required for PlayStation consoles and on Steam.

Nevertheless, it seems we are in for a treat with the upcoming entry in the Call of Duty franchise. The last entry, Modern Warfare 3, disappointed many due to its weak gameplay, but this year’s Call of Duty appears to be focusing heavily on all aspects.

The return of the original Black Ops round-based zombies is also confirmed for the game, a feature missed in the later Black Ops entries. So far, the game is shaping up to be one of the strongest titles in the Call of Duty franchise, but we’ll have to wait and see what the final product is like.

We are not far from the game’s release, as it officially launches in October 2025, and will be available day one on the Xbox Game Pass.
