Avowed Will Feature More Than 10 Possible Endings
Avowed is one of the most interesting upcoming titles of the near future, and the game has become even more exciting now that the game’s director, Carrie Patel, has revealed a very exciting fact about it.
Patel revealed that their highly anticipated action RPG Avowed will feature over 10 different endings. She shared these new details during an interview with IGN at Gamescom 2024.
Importance: Introducing multiple endings in a game allows players to experience diverse outcomes, enhancing replayability and extending the game’s longevity.
Avowed has been crafted with a strong emphasis on character development and storytelling. Patel revealed that companions play a central role in the game’s narrative, with player choices impacting not only the story but also how the endings unfold.
She explained that the multiple ending slides will reflect the consequences of the player’s decisions throughout the game, offering a wide range of final outcomes based on the journey taken.
In her interview with IGN, Patel mentioned that Avowed would have “double-digit” ending slides, meaning players could expect more than 10 different narrative conclusions. The variety of endings is designed to reflect a player’s choices across multiple in-game scenarios.
These ending slides have long been a signature of Obsidian’s RPGs, summarizing the impact of key decisions players make during their adventures. Due to the wide variety of story-related choices, Obsidian anticipates that many players will replay Avowed to experience different outcomes.
Patel also emphasized that Avowed will be accessible to newcomers unfamiliar with the Pillars of Eternity universe, while long-time fans will recognize familiar references and nods to previous games in the franchise.
Originally slated for a fall 2024 release on PC and Xbox Series X/S, the launch of Avowed has been delayed to February 18, 2025. The delay comes as Microsoft and Xbox sought to space out the release of their first-party titles, with major games like Treyarch’s Call of Duty: Black Ops 6, Asobo Studio’s Microsoft Flight Simulator 2024, and MachineGames’ Indiana Jones and the Great Circle expected to debut in late 2024.
Alongside Avowed, Obsidian Entertainment is also developing The Outer Worlds 2. In a recent interview with Limit Break Network, Obsidian CEO Feargus Urquhart confirmed that the studio is making steady progress on the sequel to its critically acclaimed 2018 sci-fi RPG, assuring fans that development is going well.
